Men's Soccer Blanks Bethany Lutheran to Open Season

Senior Willy Salamanca scored a pair of first half goals to give the Buena Vista men's soccer team an early lead on Friday night, and the Beavers never looked back, recording a 4-0 shutout at Bethany Lutheran in both team's season openers.

Salamanca got the scoring going early on, taking passes from Jared Dow and Noah Bardwell to knock through the game's first goal just over three minutes into play.  He later made it a 2-0 BVU advantage when Bardwell dished him a pass midway through the half.

Jacob Heath extended the margin to 3-0 early in the second half before Ean Honeycutt drilled home his first career goal late in the contest for the final score of the day.

The Beavers held a commanding 26-9 edge in total shots and held the Vikings without a single shot-on-goal.

Buena Vista is 1-0 and turns right around on Saturday afternoon to play its home opener by hosting Iowa Wesleyan University inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium at 3:00pm.
