Freshman Ryan Ruzek didnt post the low score like he did in his first collegiate round on Saturday, but he still found himself in eighth place at the end of the season-opening Blue Top Ridge Shootout at Riverside, Iowa, hosted by Coe College.
Ruzke fired a 77 on Saturday and followed up with an 84 to close out the event and was one shot back of seventh and five back of a top-five finish. Fellow freshman Andrew Underbrink, who also had a 77 in his first round, came in 10th after an 87 to close out his final round. Fresham Anthony Gallagher dipped just slightly on Sunday with an 85 which was just off his opening round 82.
The fourth freshman for the Beavers playing in the event, Evan Krause, saved five shots off his first collegiate round on Saturday by shooting 87 on Sunday. All five of BVU's golfers were in the 80's Sunday to close out the event. The team's 343 put them in fourth among the four competing teams after it was second heading into Sunday.
Wartburg College's Tyler Randall took medalist honors with a pair of 76's to win by one stroke over Coe's Luke Winker, who was Saturday's clubhouse leader.
The Kohawks did take the team title after posting a two-day total of 628 to hold off Iowa Wesleyan by 14 shots.
Next up for Buena Vista will be the Midwest Region Fall Classic that takes place September 15-16 in Galena, Ill.
