Jacob Norgaard turned in a team-best 86 on Friday afternoon with Logan Madren and Sam Pulkrabek each carding 88's, as the Buena Vista men's golf team posted the best overall improvement by 33 strokes off last week's opening round.
Norgaard helped lead that improvement by going seven shots better. Madren bounced back with an 88 after a rough 102 a week ago in Iowa City. Lane Krause, who had a 103 in round one, also had a 12-stroke improvement with a round of 91 in round two.
Pulkbrabek, who now has rounds of 86 and 88, is tied for 35th and 10 shots back of the top-20.
Buena Vista (739) is ninth overall heading into Saturday's final round. The University of Dubuque is ahead of BVU by 45 shots after a second straight roun of 347. Simpson College made the biggest leap of the day after shaving 32 shots off and moving up into third place and 13 shots off the lead.
Luther College is atop the team standings by only three strokes after Nebraska Wesleyan closed the gap following a 310. The Storm's 304 was the low round of the day.
The Prairie Wolves' Matt Unruh has a three shot lead heading into the final 18 holes on Saturday. He posted a one-over 72 on Friday.
Due to inclement weather a week ago, this year's championship will be cut back to only 54 holes. The final 18 holes get underway at 10:00am on Saturday in Indianola.
