Beaver Football Lands Four All-IIAC Selections; Three Others Named H.M.

Four Buena Vista football players were named All-Iowa Conference performers for the 2017 season as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Senior wide receiver TJ Lint was a First Team Offense honoree while junior quarterback Cole Miller was a Second Team Offense selection.  Senior linebacker Brady Illg and sophomore defensive lineman, Gary Weaver, landed spots on Second Team Defense.

Lint closed out a standout career by ranking second during league play in 2017 in receptions per contest (7.8), third in yards per contest (111.0) and sixth in all-purpose yards per game (126.9).  He set career-highs with 12 catches and 191 yards during the team's 44-41 win at Dubuque.  The 12 grabs marked the second-highest single-game total in school history while his 191 yards was the fourth-highest total.

Miller led the league in passing yards per outing (331.0) and was second in both completions (194) and attempts (350) while tying for fourth in touchdowns (18).  He ended the year in record-setting fashion, completing 36-of-54 passes for 460 yards and four touchdowns during a 35-33 loss at Coe.  His completions and yardage totals both set single-game school records and were just shy of single-game conference marks.  He was the only signal caller to pass for at least 400 yards in a game during IIAC play (he did it twice).

Illg helped lead the Beaver defense all season long.  He averaged 6.6 tackles per contest against league foes and registered two total sacks in those contests.  He had a season-high 10 tackles against Loras and registered both of his sacks against Wartburg while finishing with nine stops overall.

Weaver gave BVU a boost in the pass rush all season long.  He totaled a career-high three sacks against Nebraska Wesleyan and had 5.5 tackles for a loss overall during league play.  He had 38 total tackles from his defensive end spot and also broke up a pair of pass attempts.

All four individuals were all-conference selections for the first time in their career.

Along with those four individuals, BVU also had a trio of individuals recognized as Honorable Mention selections - seniors Joe Thraen and Tyler Oberreuter, along with freshman Eric Pacheco.  He was one of only four freshmen selected to any of the teams.

Buena Vista finished the year at 3-7 overall, 2-6 in conference play.
