Game Preview

Inside the Series: The Norse and Beavers first played against each other in 1928 with Luther walking away with a 12-6 victory at Decorah.  After playing four straight years, the two sides did not face-off again until 1950 and have played each other every year since.  The Norse lead the all-time series, 41-30.  Buena Vista has won four of the last five meetings, including a 48-24 victory here in Storm Lake last season.  BVU has won three straight home contests against the Norse and is 7-2 inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium against them since the start of the 1998 campaign.  The Beavers won nine straight meetings overall from 1998-2006.

About Luther: The Norse are coming off an upset victory at home last Saturday against #25 Dubuque, 21-17, in their IIAC opener.  The game was tied late in regulation before the Spartans took a 17-14 lead with 4:35 to go on a 20-yard field goal.  Luther, however, scored the game-winning touchdown with 55 seconds to go on a six-yard scamper.  The team currently sits second in all games averaging 261 rushing yards per game with the option-style offense.  Anthony Hollingshed is the team leader with 74.7ypg while Nick Slavens is close behind at 64.0ypg.  The duo sits ninth and 13th, respectively, in the IIAC. The Norse threw for just 84 yards against Dubuque, but also held the Spartans to under 100 yards through the air.  Luther comes in allowing more than 230ypg passing and 121.0ypg on the ground.  The team is coming off a 3-7 season in 2016 where it went 2-6 in IIAC play.
