The Buena Vista football team suffered its first loss of the year last week at Loras and will now look to put that in the past as it gets set to host Luther College on Homecoming Weekend this Saturday inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

Inside the Series: The Norse and Beavers first played against each other in 1928 with Luther walking away with a 12-6 victory at Decorah. After playing four straight years, the two sides did not face-off again until 1950 and have played each other every year since. The Norse lead the all-time series, 41-30. Buena Vista has won four of the last five meetings, including a 48-24 victory here in Storm Lake last season. BVU has won three straight home contests against the Norse and is 7-2 inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium against them since the start of the 1998 campaign. The Beavers won nine straight meetings overall from 1998-2006.
About Luther: The Norse are coming off an upset victory at home last Saturday against #25 Dubuque, 21-17, in their IIAC opener. The game was tied late in regulation before the Spartans took a 17-14 lead with 4:35 to go on a 20-yard field goal. Luther, however, scored the game-winning touchdown with 55 seconds to go on a six-yard scamper. The team currently sits second in all games averaging 261 rushing yards per game with the option-style offense. Anthony Hollingshed is the team leader with 74.7ypg while Nick Slavens is close behind at 64.0ypg. The duo sits ninth and 13th, respectively, in the IIAC. The Norse threw for just 84 yards against Dubuque, but also held the Spartans to under 100 yards through the air. Luther comes in allowing more than 230ypg passing and 121.0ypg on the ground. The team is coming off a 3-7 season in 2016 where it went 2-6 in IIAC play.
About BVU: The Beavers are looking to bounce back today following their first loss of the season a week ago at Loras, 73-34. Despite the loss, quarterback Cole Miller set a school record for passing yards in a game (444) while receiver TJ Lint went over 100 career receptions and moved into sixth-place on the program's career receiving yards list (1,654). Miller currently leads the Iowa Conference in passing yards per game while Lint sits atop in receiving yards per contest. Tariq Thomas has helped lead BVU in the ground game with 55.0ypg. Aside from Lint, Ross Adamson has caught 16 passes this season for 164 yards and one touchdown. Zach Anderson and Brady Illg lead the defense with 24 and 23 tackles, respectively. Reed Kruse and Nick Amundson have the team's only interceptions on the season. The team also has two of the top kickoff return men in the league with Amundson and Eric Pacheco each averaging over 23.0 yards per return. The duo ranks second and sixth in the IIAC.
